About Michael Brohawn, CFP®, CLU®, CAP®

After a successful stint in personal production and as an executive in a leading high-end life insurance brokerage firm, Michael, along with two partners, founded Insurance Trust Monitor (ITM), in 2007, the first full-service trust-owned life insurance (TOLI) outsource firm in the country.  After a merger in 2015 with two other related firms, the resulting company, ITM TwentyFirst, has grown to become the largest life insurance policy management firm in the country with over 175 team members and over two hundred clients, including some of the country’s leading trust, banking, and financial firms.  Michael currently retains a minority ownership position in ITM TwentyFirst and is called upon as a consultant.

Michael developed the policy remediation process that has set ITM TwentyFirst apart in the marketplace, providing trustees with a prudent process to procure and manage life insurance in a trust setting.

Michael brings those same skills and processes as an insurance advisor to policyowners and trustees as well as financial advisors, attorneys, and CPAs who wish to maximize the value of existing life insurance or procure new coverage custom fitted for a particular situation.

Michael has been a leading educator to peers in the life insurance field, especially TOLI.  He has been an educator at the annual Cannon Financial Institute’s Unique and Hard to Value Assets program held on the University of Notre Dame Campus in South Bend, Indiana, and has spoken to industry associations as diverse as Top of The Table, Texas Bankers Association, Fiduciary and Risk Management Association (FIRMA), and American Bankers Association (ABA). At ITM TwentyFirst he founded the ITM TwentyFirst University and wrote a handbook for trustees, regulators and advisors. Michael has been quoted in industry publications and the Wall Street Journal and this year wrote his first book, The Wealth Advisors Guide to Life Insurance.

According to Mr. Brohawn, “For over a decade I managed policies for trustees and financial institutions across the country and it has provided me with a real-world grounding in the use of life insurance for high-net-worth clients.”

Born and raised in Maryland, his fondness for the Eastern Shore of Maryland is firm, though he now enjoys living in Florida, a stone’s throw from the Atlantic with his wife Kathy.
